High Desert ESD and Lewis and Clark College of Education received a Teaching American History (TAH) grant from the U.S. Department of Education in the Fall of 2009. For this grant, these partners developed the professional development project “Path Through History” with the goal of supporting teachers at all grade levels (emphasis grades 4-12), in acquiring both knowledge and innovative ideas related to the teaching and learning of American History.

The professional development project focuses on 5 themes throughout American history including: American Dreams; Growth of Democracy; Expanding Borders and Influence; Cultural Contact and Conflict; and Industrial and Technological Change.

This grant runs for three years with the possibility of two additional years, Teachers will participate in a cohort of 30 teachers at a time, meeting for five weekend workshops (including a 2-day field trip) over the school year..

Cohorts will be assembled along grade level:

Elementary School level for 2009-2010

Middle School level for 2010 -2011

High School level for 2011 -2012

This project is currently recruiting 30 Elementary School level teachers from High Desert region to participate in the Path Through History project.
